Inflammation places a heavy burden on the skin, disrupting its ability to regulate, repair, and respond with ease. Over time, this underlying stress can manifest as a wide range of secondary symptoms, including redness, breakouts, rosacea, visible capillaries, dehydration, loss of elasticity, acne, and uneven tone. Soothe Compound was formulated to address this root imbalance by reducing visible signs of irritation and restoring balance and function within the skin.

The infusions for Soothe Compound begin months in advance, with both plants moving through three or four different preparations to capture as many beneficial phytonutrients as possible. Though built from just two plants, this Compound contains 7 distinct whole-plant medicine variations.

Describing one of herbalism’s most trusted skin allies, CALENDULA, can be a challenge because it is a medicine chest within itself, able to support any skin type. While its carotenoids repair sun damage, its steroidal saponins reduce inflammation, and its resins balance the microbiome and reduce acne symptoms. It even encourages lymphatic flow and provides broad-spectrum antioxidant support. Saying everyone should be using Calendula on their skin is not an exaggeration.

Alongside that potent flower, two MILKY OAT infusions and house-made OAT MILK deliver barrier restorative phytoceramides and vitamin E. This deeply nourishing and soothing plant replenishes hydration, along with B vitamins and polysaccharides. Freshly harvested Milky Oats contain a mineral-rich plant milk called latex, brimming with magnesium and anti-inflammatory peptides.

Together, these two plants offer a remarkably complete kind of support: calming, hydrating, nourishing, protecting, and steadily restoring skin back toward comfort and balance.

SENSORY PROFILE
How it feels: a burnt orange, featherweight droplet that holds a hint of structure, absorbs instantly
How it smells: grassy fields in summer, medical herbal resins, a hint of sweetness from oat milk

PHYTOCHEMISTRY PROFILE
Soothe Compound contains these notable phytonutrients, along with many others:

polysaccharides (including beta-glucan), B vitamins (including niacinamide), carotenoids, phytosterols, phtyoceramides, essential fatty acids, phospholipids, vitamin E, peptides, amino acids, flavonoids, avenathramides, ferulic acid, tannins, resins, saponins, various minerals such as magnesium, manganese, calcium, phosphorus, selenium

USAGE
Laurel Skin Compounds are designed to be used after a Hydrating Elixir application.

Shake well before each use; for best mixing results, empty dropper fully prior to shaking. After misting skin generously with a Hydrating Elixir, apply 2-3 drops of Compound onto fingertips and press into damp skin, including face, neck, and chest. Follow with Serum and/or Balm.

SENSITIVITY NOTE
Unlike our other Compounds, we do recommend Soothe Compound for sensitive skin. That said, all of our Compounds are potent plant medicine. We recommend waiting to use Soothe until a Laurel Skin ritual has already been established and is used with ease.

RITUAL
Soothe Compound is the ideal Compound for layering. Since inflammation is the underlying root cause of nearly all skin imbalances, Soothe supports all aspects of healthy skin functioning and enhances the actions of all other Compounds. To layer with other Compounds, begin with an all-over application of Soothe Compound. Then apply your second Compound on top of Soothe. If two Compounds at once is too many steps, then you can alternate Compounds in the morning and evening.

Store this product in a cool, dry, and dark place. Use within 6 months of opening and by the use-by date found on the bottom of the bottle.

CALENDULA
This gentle flower medicine is known for accelerating the healing process across various conditions and preventing scarring due to its resins and saponins. Its carotenoids and flavonoids are particularly effective in preventing and repairing sun damage. Calendula is gentle enough to aid the healing of depleted skin barriers. It supports a balanced microbiome by nourishing beneficial bacteria, while also preventing colony imbalances. This vibrant orange flower is often referred to as the “bringer of sunshine,” and is especially beneficial for fungal acne and various topical fungal imbalances. Calendula’s unique triterpenoids have been shown to inhibit specific inflammatory pathways, such as NF-kB, associated with cancer and permanent DNA damage. A true herbal ally for all systems and types, Calendula is also lymph supportive and gently prevents stagnation of fluid in our tissues.

OAT
Commonly referred to in herbalism as Milky Oats, this plant provides instant soothing relief to irritation and inflammation. Oats are rich in zinc, manganese, and silica, making this herb excel at strengthening and firming connective tissue. It is a nutritive tonic for tired skin, providing slow and steady nourishment. Both Oat Milk and Milky Oat Seed Pods are hydrating and barrier supportive, due to their unique phytochemical makeup, which includes ceramides, amino acids, anti-inflammatory-specific peptides, and an abundance of B vitamins – including niacinamide.

Laurel Skin Compounds break an industry mold. A new approach to plant-active skincare and cosmeceuticals, these Compounds have created a first-of-their-kind category.

While it’s common practice for natural skincare to include lab-made synthetic cosmeceutical ingredients like retinol, vitamin C, or hyaluronic acid, we see imbalance in that formulation approach. Those ingredients force the skin into specific actions without providing the complex synergistic nutrients needed to sustain those actions in a balanced way.

The Laurel Skin Compounds provide whole-plant alternatives to common cosmeceutical serums, like retinol, vitamin C, and niacinamide.

These herbalist-created, topical, whole-plant skin supplements are formulated to support the skin through both momentary flare-ups and chronic conditions. Used by the drop with our Hydrating Elixirs, the Compounds support specific skin concerns and evolving symptoms of imbalance, allowing for a more customized Laurel Skin Ritual.

Each Compound is a labor of patient dedication, taking several months to create. Containing multiple types of plant mediums, medicines, and techniques, the intricate process involves each plant undergoing a diverse array of maceration, extraction, and infusion. This process ensures that we capture the complete phytonutrient profile of each whole plant in the final product.

This category and approach is not only unheard-of and unprecedented, but proudly unreasonable.

Plants vs Synthetics
There remains a significant stigma in the beauty industry that synthetic nutrients are necessary to alter the health and appearance of our skin – this belief couldn’t be further from reality. Whole organic plants, when handled with great care and formulated appropriately, deliver potent concentrations of phytonutrients that can transform the skin. Laurel Skin Compounds are rich in valuable constituents such as botanical hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, vitamin C, and ferulic acid. All of the plant’s nutrients are proportioned and in balance, with complex delivery and stability systems inherent in the plants themselves.

This approach is known as Whole Plant Herbalism. Most Herbalist lineages believe that a plant’s vast synergistic chemical profile is more impactful than any of its single, isolated parts. Every plant is made up of hundreds to thousands of intricate constituents, harmoniously working together, and whole plant herbalism relies on that full spectrum of a plant’s complex chemical profile to support the body’s natural functions. The Laurel Skin Compounds fully embody this approach of whole plant herbalism.
