Detox Mask strikes the perfect balance between effectively drawing out impurities with clarifying clay while hydrating with nourishing roots and anti-inflammatory herbs. The combination of those supportive actions leads to clearer skin with less visible pores and a reduction in redness and breakouts. This Mask is ideal for skin experiencing red, irritated, inflamed acne, or for skin with any level of pore congestion.
French Green Clay is a powerful purge for congested skin, deeply cleansing to the daily buildup of pollutants, oxidized sebum and cellular debris. The roots in this Mask, Burdock, Dandelion and Marshmallow, provide further detoxification, as well as hydration and nourishment for both the skin and microbiome. Detox Mask is one of the most nourishing prebiotics in the Laurel Skin line. This Mask is also one of the most lymph-supportive in our line, encouraging cleansing at that deeper level. Three types of Chamomile, alongside Passionflower, Yarrow, and Helichrysum, are all potent plant medicines to provide cooling relief to inflammation and irritation. Self Heal is a plant that encourages topical healing, as well as emotional healing which can be helpful in cases of distressed skin. Notable whole plant constituents in this Mask are B vitamins, betaine, polysaccharides, azulene, and salicylic acid*, all found to be beneficial for clearer skin and a healthy microbiome. Detox Mask can be applied to the full face and neck, or used to target areas with the most congestion or even applied to isolated breakouts as a spot treatment.
*Not to be confused with the negative side effects of isolated lab-made salicylic – ours is within the context of the gentle and healing Passionflower plant.
French Green Clay – This powerful Clay is drawing and detoxifying, and instantly reduces the appearance of pores. It is rich in nourishment and helps to encourage cell turnover. It can be too drying for some skin types, which is why we recommend always keeping your Mask hydrated for the best possible results. If the Mask is kept hydrated throughout, then this purifying treatment is suitable for dry or oily skin.
Lavender – Our biodynamic Lavender flowers and essential oil are cultivated miles from our Petaluma apothecary-lab. They are anti-inflammatory, calming, and cooling to the skin. They promote healthy cell functioning, and have a balancing action on oil production.
Passionflower – This soothing flower and vine is farmed locally just for Laurel Skin. Passionflower gently promotes detoxification and clarity, and its astringent action is healing to skin irritations and redness.
Dulse Seaweed – Our organically farmed nutritive Dulse helps to detoxify, while providing skin with optimal nourishment and antioxidant activity.
Burdock + Dandelion – These nutrient rich roots are excellent food or prebiotics for our microbiome. They are high in B vitamins and polysaccharides, making them soothing and hydrating. They also assist in detoxing by carrying away impurities and cellular debris.
Chamomile – This Mask features Chamomile in three ways to provide cooling, soothing relief for reactive, red, inflamed, or acneic skin. It is a skin game-changer ingredient, and is as powerful and strong as it is delicate and gentle. It is present as German and Roman Chamomile Essential Oil, as well as our hand-harvested whole flowers.
Marshmallow – Marshmallow is a root to love: a super-hydrator that mimics our own hyaluronic acid. It deeply hydrates, soothes, and visibly plumps the skin. It contains standout constituents like betaine, B vitamins, quercetin, ferulic acid, and polysaccharides. This plant has an affinity for water friendly tissue like fascia, and can help with stagnation in connective tissues.

Apply 1 teaspoon or less of Detox Mask to mask bowl, and trickle a bit of water in with your fingertips to preferred consistency. Mix with a brush into a slightly runny paste and allow to steep like tea for a few minutes. Allowing the Mask to steep will cause it to thicken and will further activate ingredients. Once ready to apply, moisten face and hands. Apply gently to face and neck with fingertips or preferably a mask brush. Leave on for 10-30 minutes, then rinse. Keep mask hydrated to keep mask active and to prevent drying on the skin. The longer the mask is left on the more frequently it will need to be rehydrated to stay active. Re-hydrate it with a brush, fingertips, or a mister bottle of water.

Use within 12 months of opening and by the recommended use-by date, which is found on the bottom of the jar. Store this product in a cool, dry and dark place. Keep contents of jar dry and free from moisture.
Is Clay Drying?
The answer to this lies in how you utilize Clay. When Clay is left to dry on the skin, it will absorb both oil and water as the Clay dries out. When Clay is kept hydrated, it can have the opposite effect. Clay contains hydrating minerals and enzymes, which can help to hydrate and soften the skin while it continues to pull impurities and detoxify.
How much you choose to let the Detox Mask dry on your skin is your personal preference, but keeping all of the Laurel Skin Masks hydrated while on the skin is what we recommend for the best results. Keeping the Detox Mask hydrated will reduce breakouts and pore congestion while still providing nourishment and the moisture needed for a balanced and healthy barrier and microbiome.
My personal favorite way to keep our Masks hydrated is by applying them before I get into the bath or shower. The steam from the bath or shower keeps my Mask hydrated, and I am then able to easily rinse those messy plants down the drain when I am finished.
