Our California Rose is a rare, single-origin distillation made from fresh petals grown and harvested within minutes of our apothecary-lab. Gentle enough for all skin types, Rose hydrates deeply, strengthens the barrier, and visibly plumps and firms the skin. Our California Rose Hydrosol is a rare distillation, made from fresh, organic Damask Roses grown by one of our longest-standing farm partners just down the road from our Petaluma Barn. Unlike common hydrosols, the rarer still Rose essential oil has not been removed from this distillation, maintaining a high medicinal potency.

SKIN
Rose is one of the most traditional and historically used herbal skin allies in existence. The final distillation is rich in rare Rose oil, which he leaves in the hydrosol, making it more fragrant and nutrient-rich.

    Rose is one of the most labor-intensive plants in herbal medicine. Each distillation requires thousands of freshly harvested petals, gathered by hand in a narrow window of time. It is also a crop vulnerable to underpaid and unseen labor, where pricing often does not reflect the true work required.

    Much of the global Rose supply is centered in regions like Bulgaria, where large distillation houses rely on small-scale farmers. Despite the intensity of the harvest, wages often remain low, and oversight is limited. These are not isolated concerns, but ongoing realities within the industry.

    For years, we have worked toward sourcing Rose closer to home. This hydrosol comes from one of our longest-standing farm partners, grown and distilled just minutes from our apothecary. The proximity allows for fresh distillation, direct relationship, and transparency in how the plants are grown, harvested, and processed.

    While this Rose is more costly, it reflects a different model, one where the labor, land, and scale of the plant are visible and respected.
