KEY ACTIONS

  • Reduces the appearance of redness, irritation + reactivity
  • Cools heat and visible inflammation in stressed skin
  • Restores balance in acne-prone or congested skin

SKIN TYPE

Suitable for all

Chamomile Hydrosol is a soothing ally for skin of all types and all ages to keep on hand. It is the plant to reach for when the skin is irritated with acute flare-ups, like sunburns, rashes, or stings. Meanwhile, this powerful anti-inflammatory plant brings relief and balance to skin in more chronic states of ongoing stress, like acne or rosacea.

SKIN
One distinctive phytochemical in Chamomile Hydrosol is chamazulene, a deep blue terpenoid that instantly cools and relieves irritation. Chamazulene, along with another phytochemical, bisabolol, work to diffuse heat within the skin and reduce inflammation in acne-prone or rosacea conditions. Chamomile keeps the microbiome in balance through quorum sensing, which inhibits harmful or disruptive microbe behavior, but still allows for a healthy, diverse microbiome to thrive.

BODY
Chamomile is a classic nervine, known for its ability to settle the nervous system, as well as reduce pain and spasming. Applied topically, it offers a cooling, grounding presence that can be especially supportive where there is tension, aching muscles, or overstimulation of the nervous system. For the skin, Chamomile is relieving to bug bites, dermatitis of any kind, and over-exposure to sun.

SPIRIT
Chamomile is often turned to in moments of irritability, frustration, or overwhelm. It can shift the energy after anger and frustration, or soothe a tired child. Chamomile is calming medicine for emotional or spiritual inflammation. Use it to help with fear, impatience, or denser emotional states that are getting stuck in your field.

After a full day of swimming, hiking, or adventuring, the skin often needs its extra soothing relief. 100% Whole Plant Organic

CHAMOMILE
Our German Chamomile Hydrosol comes from a regenerative, organic farm in the Pacific Northwest that we have worked with for over a decade. After harvesting fresh flowers in the early morning from their own farm, they put them through an all-day distillation process in traditional copper stills.

  • Distilled exclusively for Laurel Skin as a hydrosol, not an essential oil byproduct
  • Our level of care and integrity is proudly unreasonable.

    On Chamomile vs Calendula
Chamomile and Calendula are often spoken about in similar ways, as both are deeply soothing to the skin. The difference lies in how they work.

Chamomile is especially suited to skin in a reactive or inflamed state when there is heat, imbalance, or visible irritation that needs calming and rebalancing. It brings a cooling, diffusing quality that helps settle the skin in crisis mode, moments of reactivity, sun exposure, or wounds.

Calendula, by contrast, is more supportive to skin that is fragile or compromised, where the focus is on strengthening and repair, rebuilding over time.
Both are helpful plant allies for sensitive and reactive skin.
